On the 26th June Nutley Windmill were holding an important anniversary celebration. The Sussex and Kent Weald Stationary Engine Group were invited to attend the event which we gladly accepted. Nutley Mill is located on a fantastic plot in the Ashdown Forest East Sussex. The mill is the last open trestle post mill in Sussex and one of only five surviving in the whole of England, the mill dates from around 1700 and is well worth a visit just for the views!
We were quite limited for space so only a few members were able to show their engines. The event attracted a lot of interest from the public and guided tours around the mill helped to explain how the mill worked and we were able to tell people what our various engines used to do, at the end of the engine line we welcomed Aveling & Porter Road Roller no:6847 "Royalty" built in 1909 and at the other end of the line was the mill so there was steam, petrol and wind power all together, all very important roles from our industrial heritage.
