Kingsfold Vintage Rally 2005 Short Stories

Our First Engine

On Saturday at the Kingsfold Rally Martin Reed and his son Shaun went to the S&KWSEG club tent to buy a raffle ticket for the engine raffle, whilst in the tent Shaun spotted a Lister D in the corner with a for sale sign attached to it Excitedly Shaun told his Mum and Dad who promptly came over to have look. Martin was impressed at the condition of the engine. After some haggling a deal was struck and then the enginr was taken to an area where the South hants & Dorset Stationary Club were and they set to work refitting the flywheel. Once the engine was back in one piece they fitted a new sparkplug, petrol was put in the tank and water was put in the hopper.

Then Gordon, a friend of Martin's swung the engine over and it burst into life. The engine ran very well for half an hour whilst Gordon explained to Martin how to start and stop and regulate the fuel mixture. So this engine is the first for Martin and his son Shaun to jointly own, Martin says he will eventually find something to drive with it. This small project will keep them both busy over the winter period, I dare say that this is the start of a collection that will grow between them both.
